Calverleigh June Round Up

We hope that you, your families, friends and neighbours are staying safe and well and are not finding this worrying situation too isolating and lonely.

With our churches locked at this time church is still happening. Please look for all the activities that are being organised online and by conference call by Steph to keep us engaged in faith and fellowship and in contact with each other.

As you can imagine the news all around the Mission Community is going to look a lot different this time but please keep us informed of anything you feel is important to share, especially over the coming months.  Even in this time of uncertainty there is plenty to be grateful for; the sharing of good news, phone calls, little surprises arriving in the post, neighbourly help and keeping in touch in ways that we hadn't realised existed before Coronavirus struck.  You can contact Dave with any news you may have – which will be shared on our website.
There have been a couple of fundraising events that have had to be postponed for the time-being but we are hopeful that these can be arranged for the Autumn or early next year.  Look out for more details in future editions of the magazine.

The funeral of Julie Hugo was able to take place in church just before the lockdown came into operation.  It was a lovely service put together by Julie's daughter Hannah.  A very fitting spiritual song 'I watch the sunrise' was played.  Anyone who knew Julie and her love of the outdoors would know that this was a really good choice.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Hannah and family at this sad and difficult time.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of David Evans who had lived in the village for many years before moving to a care home.  He was the village hall secretary for a number of years, was on the PCC for a while along with wife June and were great supporters of our church and the village hall through fundraising.  A graveside funeral was held for family.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

We have also heard of the passing of Michael Dummett, the father of Peter, Sarah and grandad to Rebecca.  Our thoughts and prayers are also with them and all who are mourning the loss of a loved one.

Our Day of Prayer was held on Saturday May 2. We are extremely grateful to all who took part during the day from 9am – 9pm.  At least 40 people joined in, with people from other parishes and around the wider area.  Thank you to you all.  Prayer is powerful and even more poignant at this time as an activity that can be carried out socially distancing.

New residents have moved into Manitoba.  We welcome you to the area and hope that you will be very happy here.  As soon as normal service returns to the community we look forward to meeting you at one of our social gatherings. Welcome also to anyone else who has moved into the area recently and we hope that you are still able to get to meet your new neighbours safely.

Congratulations to all who are celebrating birthdays, special anniversaries or any other occasion.  We hope that you were/are able to celebrate albeit in a different way to normal.

Our thanks go to all those key workers within our communities who continue to work under extremely difficult circumstances. We hope that you are able to work safely with all the protection that is needed to carry out your daily duties.  Thank you also to our farmers and growers supplying the needs of the nation.

Well done to all parents who are doing their very best to home school their children.  Not an easy task, especially if you have children in different year groups, key stages and missing their school friends as well.  May you have the patience to carry this on for however long it may be. There are links to some resources on our website should you need them.

Coming Up...

We will still have our monthly time of prayer on the first Saturday of each month, with the next ones on 7 June and 5 July between 9 and 11am. Do join together with us in prayer if you can.

Unfortunately we have no other upcoming events for your diaries for the foreseeable future, but please keep checking the Mission Community website and our Facebook page as we may try to arrange a social or a quiz perhaps via Zoom or Skype. If anyone feels led to set up an online event, please do so, and let us know if you need any help.
