Loxbeare Round Up - Jan 2019

Happy New Year to everyone and trust you experienced the joy of Christmas time as we celebrated the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ.  We joined with the Christingle Praise Party at Calverleigh this year instead of having one at Loxbeare. Thank you to Calverleigh for their welcome and hospitality after the service in the Hall.  Our Carol Service was on the 23 December when the Church was almost full.  It was taken by John with members of the congregation reading the Christmas story throughout the Bible. The offering of £230 was donated to the Children’s Hospice S.W. Presents were placed under the tree & later distributed to Pinnex/Ashdown nursing home.

It was good to see many at the Christmas Day Service led by John with Steph speaking.  This was also a Family Communion Service. Thank you to all who helped decorate the Church so beautifully and the tree, to those who cleared up after Christmas & all who helped in any way over the Christmas period.

A big thank you to all the carol singers, though few in number, some who sang on all three nights!  To Linda, Jean & Myrtle who kindly provided the suppers.  Also to everyone who gave so generously – a wonderful total of £865 which will be split between ‘Mind’ and ‘Force’.

13 January we welcomed Washfield and Calverleigh to the Cluster Service, a good number attended, a lovely service.

Mothering Sunday will be in the Village Hall with the service commencing at approx. 10.30. This will be preceded by a full English Breakfast from 9.30am cooked and served by the men.  Do come and join us.

The Annual Parish Church Meeting will be on Thursday 25 February at 7.30 in the Village Hall.

Ron & Margaret have been to Australia to see Angela and Family.  While there they went to visit Martin and Thelma  Honneybun who asked to be remembered to everyone.  They also met up with Peter Dunn who some may remember from many years ago when he lived at Pantacridge then he moved to farm at Little Silver and later emigrated to Australia, Ron hadn’t seen him for 50-60years.

Congratulations to all those with special occasions & Happy Birthday to those with birthdays in February/March.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Marlene Taylor and all who are unwell, having treatment or waiting for operations.

The Village Party with a bring & share supper was held on 12 January.  It was great fun and enjoyed by young and the not so young!.  Thank you to Ron & Margaret for organising it, Aubrey Goldsworthy who helped with the games and all who brought food and helped in any way.

The Village Christmas Meal was at Bickleigh Mill and was enjoyed by all with lovely food and company.  Thank you to Sue for organising the evening.  Dates & Venues for February & March phone Sue on 01884 259496.

The Christmas Fayre raised £347 & the Bingo evening £147 for the Village Hall.

The next social evening in the Village Hall will be 23 March. Cream Teas will be 9 Feb and 9 March at 3-5.
